SoulGenSounds represents an esteemed group of albums and artists that embody the mission of SoulGenesis. We struggled initially with what SoulGen Sounds really was, socially conscious music, balanced music, responsible, positive, underground. We did not want to put value judgments on artists but we also knew that there was a unifying theme behind all of the artists we wanted to feature. Where we landed: high-quality, life-affirming music. That’s it.

SoulGen Feature artists are very diverse. We currently primarily feature HipHop and Soul artists, some underground, some more mainstream. Some of our artists are intensely political, others focus on love and relationships. But in the end, they all make music that is high quality and affirms life. As educators, we wanted music that we could enjoy with our students. We wanted music that parents could enjoy with their children. As social activists, we wanted music that is inspiring. And, as music lovers, we wanted music that we could enjoy, bob our heads to, and feel good about. Each album/artist/song that is featured on our site has passed through our SoulGen MOB (Media Opinions Board).
